Overview

From the snow capped Alps to the lush greenery and exuberance of Bangladesh, sustainable development has taken a whole new meaning. oikos, the international student organization for sustainable economics and management, has an annual program that is fast gaining popularity amongst students interested to step out of the academic boundaries to know more about sustainable development. An initiative of oikos St. Gallen, the oikos Winter School takes place in this quaintly picturesque city of Switzerland. With an exciting program of corporate speakers sharing their experiences of sustainable business practices to academicians lecturing on the many methods of implementing them, students are provided with a fabulously interactive opportunity to hash out problems amongst themselves. To top it all, a review of the entire program is brought together in one piece when participants are given a 'challenge' at the beginning of the week, and have to deliver a solution for it on the program’s last day.

oikos Dhaka decided to go on a mission to find such a bunch of eclectic students, looking to discover a bit more about sustainable development. Academicians and corporate speakers from all over South East Asia will be invited, but students from any part of the world are most welcome to apply. The Future Lab hopes to build a unique group of change agents, who will come to terms with the various challenges in business, and possible solutions to them, in a sustainable manner.

Set at an hour’s drive from the country’s hub and capital city Dhaka, The oikos SEA Future Lab will be held amidst tall swaying trees, wide gardens with swings in them and sumptuous Bangladeshi and South Asian cuisine. As long as you are a student, interested to mingle with some of the friendliest organizers this side of the globe, meeting with hyper individuals, all set to debate, question, learn, challenge, react, argue and above all, have a whale of time doing it all, then oikos SEA Future Lab, 2007 is the place to be! For a taste of the Indian subcontinent and the warmest hospitality one can imagine, join us in Bangladesh, for the oikos SEA Future Lab 2007.

The program comprises lectures, discussions and working groups on sustainability challenges. The event also places strong emphasis on insights into institutional change and stakeholder dialogue.
