oikos – the International Student Organisation for Sustainable Economics and Management. oikos was founded in 1987 at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Ever since, the organisation has organized speeches, workshops and conferences to integrate environmental and social issues into teaching and research in Economics and Management.

In 1997, oikos decided to internationalise its activities and to strengthen sustainability awareness not only among students in Switzerland, but also within faculties of Economics and Management on a global scale. During the last eight years, the organisation has moved a large step towards reaching this objective. Today, oikos comprises 22 student teams in more than 18 countries.

oikos Dhaka, started its journey in January 2005 and is one of the youngest chapters of oikos International in the lot. With quite a handful of activities locally, oikos Dhaka intends to organise the first international programme with cooperation with oikos International.

oikos together with its network of chapters all over the world seek to strengthen sustainability-oriented entrepreneurship among tomorrow's leaders and decision makers by sensitising students of business and economics to sustainable development issues. oikos activities comprise the organisation of lectures, conferences, simulation games and workshops as well as practice-oriented sustainability projects.
